A Real-Life Conversation

Tennis Team Captain: “You up for singles again this Saturday?”
Me: “We’re going full-out on this one, huh? [TIME OUT: I was so sure I would not be playing this weekend because a) I had already played 4 weeks straight with a woeful 2-2 record, b) we were not going to win our flight or make play-offs, and c) surely, there were others that needed playing time. How silly of me. We ended up playing everyone who could possibly play that weekend.] I was this close to telling the dog im sitting we were going on a roadtrip. So ure taking this seriously?”
Tennis Team Captain: “Don’t have alot of singles takers. Could ask [other player] but she’s played 5 times already or I guess I could give it a try but might still need you for doubles.”
2 minutes later…
Tennis Team Captain: “Does road trip mean [location of place we’re playing at]?”
Me: “Heck, yeah road trip means freaking [location we’re playing at]…”
It wasn’t till later that I realized “road trip” for other people does not, in fact, revolve around tennis.
